LEAL Elementary is a Magnet School

Leal Elementary is a Visual and Performing Arts magnet school. A Magnet School is one that is chosen by its district and the federal government to receive extra funding, equipment, teachers, and training to "specialize" in a chosen field or two. All of the 16 Magnet Schools in ABCUSD have been awarded over $20 million federal monies to develop and sustain theme-based programs of excellence.

The staff, students, and parents of Leal Elementary School are committed to providing an effective instructional program that will equip students for a productive work life, enable students to participate in a democracy as effective and informed citizens, encourage continuous individual development, and prepare students to join a culturally diverse society.

At Leal Elementary School, we believe that exposure to the arts contributes significantly to a student's creative and intellectual development. Our Visual and Performing Arts Magnet Program features musical theater and visual arts. All students receive specialized instruction in music, dance, and acting and showcase their talents in school-wide musical performances. Additionally, a spring musical is held each year in which students audition and are cast for lead, supporting, and ensemble roles. Our visual art program focuses on art theory and technique, and students produce four to five original pieces per year.

The ABC Unified School District is a school district that is based in Cerritos, California, United States.  ABCUSD serves the cities of Artesia, most of Cerritos, Hawaiian Gardens, the portion of Lakewood east of the San Gabriel River, as well as tiny portions of Long Beach, Norwalk, and La Mirada (the ABC portion of La Mirada contains only business areas, no residents). "ABC" stands for Artesia (founded in 1875), Bloomfield and Carmenita (founded in 1902), three districts which were unified in 1965.
